Step-by-Step Guide: How to Build a Playhouse for Kids with TP Toys

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on assembling TP Toys playhouses.

A children’s playhouse isn’t just a garden building. It’s a safe space for your kids to explore. With TP Toys' range of garden playhouses, you have so many to choose from. Whether you’ve gone for the cute Clover Cottage, a wooden kids' playhouse or a TP Forest Cabin Playhouse, we’re going to walk you through the assembly process, step by step.

We’ll give you detailed instructions on how to assemble our playhouses, whether that’s a Wendy House or a Tower Playhouse, your kids’ new toy will be ready in no time.

Preparation Before Assembly

Ever heard the phrase “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail”? Well, it applies to playhouses too! Before you get stuck into the assembly process, you need to prepare.

  1. Start by unboxing all the parts, and laying them out on a flat surface. This gives you a chance to make sure no parts are missing. The box should include panels, roof sections, floorboards, hardware and any decorative elements like flower boxes.
  2. Have the instruction manual handy, as it will guide you through the assembly steps. It will also have a list of the parts so you can check you have everything.
  3. Next, get all the tools you need. Usually, you’ll need a screwdriver, a hammer and maybe a drill. A tape measure and level can also be handy, to make sure everything is precise and even.
  4. Once your tools are organised, start preparing the site for the playhouse. Choose a suitable position that is level, well-drained and free of debris or obstructions. Also, make sure there is enough space around the playhouse for safety and accessibility.

Assembling the Playhouse

The assembly process starts with building the base of the playhouse. Connect the floor panels using the screws and connectors that will be provided. You need to make sure the floor panels are securely fastened and level, so they make a stable foundation for the rest of the structure. If your playhouse includes floor supports, install these beams according to the instructions for extra stability. Once you’ve got the floor down, double check it is secure. For extra safety, you can use stakes or anchors.

With the base set up, you can move on to the walls. Position the wall panels according to the instructions and align them carefully. Most TP Toys playhouses feature pre-cut panels that slot together easily.

Secure the panels using screws or bolts. At this stage, it’s useful to have another pair of hands, so someone else can hold the panels in place whilst you secure them. After securing the walls, check that all connections are tight and the structure is solid. For larger playhouses like the Tower Playhouse, you may need to install extra support braces for extra stability, this will be made clear in your specific instructions.

The next step is installing the roof. If your playhouse has a pitched roof, start by assembling the roof sections according to the instructions. Once the sections are assembled, lift them into place on top of the walls. Secure the roof using the provided fasteners, making sure it is properly lined up and also ensuring all screws or bolts are tightened.

After securing the roof, give your playhouse a thorough once over. Make sure there are no holes or gaps in the roof, double-check it feels safely secured to the ground and generally check you’re happy with the build!

Ensuring Safety and Maintenance

Safety should be the number one concern when you are assembling a playhouse, so make sure you inspect all parts for rough edges or spikey screws. You might want to sand down any rough areas to protect your little ones.

To look after the playhouse, you should also regularly check all parts are connected properly, to ensure the playhouse stays a safe space. The structure should be stable and it should not wobble; address any signs of wear or damage promptly to ensure it remains a safe environment for your children.

Ongoing maintenance is essential to keep the playhouse in good condition. You should regularly clean the playhouse, removing dirt and debris. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the playhouse. Depending on your climate, you might need to apply a weatherproof sealant to the wood to protect it from rain, sun and the elements.

Adding Finishing Touches

With the main structure of the playhouse in place, it’s time for the fun bit… adding the finishing touches.

The doors and windows are the first part. Hold the door in place and use the hinges to attach it, checking it can swing freely and latch properly. If your playhouse has windows, put them in their slots and, like the doors, check they can open/close properly.

If your playhouse comes with flower boxes, install these on the outside by attaching them to the walls with screws or brackets. Flower boxes are a great touch for your kids’ playhouse. Adding real flowers also means you can give your kids something to nurture and care for, which is great for them learning responsibility.

You can also personalise the playhouse further by adding things like a doorbell, postbox or picket fence. Or, by getting creative with the painting!
